What is Watson?

Viewing of the videos of Juan Enriquez on Homo Evolutis , I've noticed the ínitma relationship between the update mechanism of the species according to the theory of evolution and the current crisis If no emergency, we live in our society, a civilization devoid of mutations that can make a passive improve our skills and ability to adapt to changes, doomed to extinction if it finds ideas about implement projects that really competitive and completely new.

One of these, which has caught my attention in recent days has been Watson, a creation of IBM able recognize natural language, interpret questions and formulate responses. Although at first it may seem far removed from the Health, and have a whole team dedicated to developing new applications for our field Watson.

Presentation: clinical utility of the Complement System in Immune Dysfunction

This is the presentation I gave on Thursday 3 March 2011 at the Department of Rheumatology, Hospital Universitario Ramón y Cajal with the title: "Clinical Utility of the complement system."

With this presentation I wanted to explain, first, the basic mechanisms and theoretical information needed to understand they can make determinations of levels of complement in the clinical-care and second, to convey the idea that many comorbidities or circumstances that may influence the complement system in a given time, and that all must, like any other clinical data, be taken into account for the correct assessment of these parameters immune system.

I adapted the presentation to a format compatible with the web and I stayed at Skydrive so they can view and download. I recommend clicking to see the full screen icon (on the corner of bottom right) and then clicking on "START SLIDE SHOW" in order to view the effects.

Space Flight Routes Activation

Areas of Study: Immunology
Decades of research
Have Shown That the human Changes in the immune response space environment, but the exact causes and mechanisms of these immune system changes have not yet been determined definitively. Immune system suppression seems to be a common problem in spaceflight, and because some bacteria and other micro-organisms can be more dangerous in the space environment than on Earth, crewmembers may be at greater risk for contracting illnesses and diseases.

Because preliminary research has shown that certain types of bacteria and other micro-organisms may be more dangerous and pose a greater risk of contagion in the space environment, understanding the human immune system’s response during spaceflight is an important research priority.

Although most existing research on this topic has been drawn from relatively short-term shuttle missions, research HRP Suggests That May Result in Longer flights to Greater degree of immune system suppression or disturbance. As Such, the study of human immunology in long-term space habitation space flight or is likely to Be an area of \u200b\u200bresearch as That Receives Greater Attention prepare NASA for future long-duration missions.

Making a brief review on the subject I found an article of 2009 Guéguinou and colleagues at the University of Nancy (France) interesting about the immunosuppressive effects, infections and other diseases that may be associated with this type of mission. Could

spaceflight-associated immune system weakening preclude the expansion of human Presence Beyond Earth's orbit?
